Art Director, Licensing & Design Development

We are looking for an independent, detail oriented, enthusiastic candidate who has experience in e-commerce and product design. Must have a passion for pop culture, trends and personalized gift products. The successful candidate will have a portfolio that showcases problem solving, excellent typographic and color skills.
What You’ll Do:
- Art direct and manage a team of internal and external designers to create innovative concepts for licensed properties such as Marvel, Peanuts, Paramount/CBS, ABC, etc.
- Oversee the creation of concepts from scratch, as well as adding personalization and required legal attributions to existing artwork.
- Prepare line sheets, styles guides, and reports as needed.
- Manage and track approvals for all Licensing portals with the help of the current Project coordinator.
- Liaison with VP of Content & Merchandising to identify new styles and opportunities for the assortment.
- Create trend concept boards of typographic inspiration, patterns and colorways, compiling references and samples, then direct the creation of designs to reflect those trends.
- Collaborate with VPs of Licensing and Merchandising to ensure Licensor product and marketing plans are being met with new collection development.
- While your primary role will be CafePress, there will be occasional cross over licensing projects for other PlanetArt brands such as Ink Cards, MyCustomCase and Personal Creations.
What you should have:
- 5 years of work experience as Art Director or in similar role
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, or another relevant field
- Portfolio of design and art direction projects
- Excellent time-management skills
- An impeccable eye for details and will enjoy creating in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to both design and direct others to create artwork
- Passion for design, entertainment, films, tv and pop culture
- Excellent composition, color, and typography skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop with knowledge of production and printing processes
- Ability to design non-template concepts from scratch
- Must be a self-motivator, possessing the ability to work effectively with little or no supervision
- Positive outlook and collaborative spirit: strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
- High level of creative vision for development of unique concepts
- Experience in directing licensing and/or product design development/content creation is a plus
- Illustration skills a plus
This position can be remote, or in office in Calabasas, CA, San Diego, or Louisville, KY. There is no relocation assistance available.
